About Us

Kilo-Womp Electric Ltd. is a Kelowna based company that focuses on electrical design, lighting design, lighting controls and automation for high end custom homes. The systems that go into today’s homes are often confusing for homeowners with the numerous controls and switches that create unsightly wall clutter.

Our philosophy is to achieve a level of integration and automation that provides energy efficiency, and allows the homeowner to operate their many features with simplicity and convenience.  Our goal is to integrate as many systems as practical, having them all operate in the same manner throughout the home from aesthetic keypads, smart phones or tablets.

We have extensive experience with large custom projects and work closely with architects, design teams, and other trades to create dream homes while recognizing the need for superior workmanship and detail. We consider this our niche and specialty that few other companies have the training and experience to do well.

Kilo-Womp Milestones

’1982

Kilo-Womp Electric was started by Keith Wemp in 1982.

’1884

In 1984 Keith hired his first employee and by 1990 had a crew of 6. The business was primarily focused on new home construction.

’1995

In 1995, the business began to specialize in high end residential homes and the installation of the Lutron Homeworks programmable lighting control and automation system. It provides control of lighting, drapes, fountains, gates and various other items. Keith attended numerous courses in the U.S. and Canada obtaining a number of certifications.

The company has also invested substantially in training for it’s key employees. Kilo-Womp has dedicated itself to this field, and has become a leader in Lutron expertise. Over time, Kilo-Womp has expanded into the audio visual market, with the sales and installation of multi room audio systems.

’1997

In 1997 Kilo-Womp Electric started working with Shaw Cable, building new head end sites with generator and UPS backup systems throughout the province, in preparation for the internet launch. Many existing head end sites required major upgrading and we were given the opportunity to design the electrical and backup systems on a site-to-site basis. This gave us exposure and experience into a completely new area of our industry and began a long term working relationship. With technology changes and more demand for additional communication systems and services, we are continually involved in upgrading communication hub sites and backup systems.

’Notable

Kilo-Womp Electric installed the electrical system on a large private surgical center and MRI. The surgical center has three operating rooms with extensive specialized equipment and requirements. It also required major back-up systems and design with alarm monitoring and notification systems.

How the Name Came About

Growing up with a last name like Wemp opened itself up to many nicknames, but the one that stuck was Womp. After entering the electrical industry, friends changed the nickname to Kilo-Womp. In 1982, full time work was scarce and a friend suggested Keith do the electrical installation for his new home. That required getting an electrical contracting and business license. Thinking it was a temporary situation, Kilo-Womp Electric was used as the business name. One project led to another and the business and name continued on.
